Even if you’ve been a publicist, or an author, for only a year, you have experienced seismic shifts in the publishing industry.  Do we embrace the new and ignore what we have done previously?  Using three examples of past successes–all with previously unknown authors–Alice Acheson will provide guidelines to embrace the old and welcome the new, thereby leading to success for your current titles.

A member of NCBPMA since 1988, Alice B. Acheson returns to the Bay Area to share her experience. She has been an editor, publicist, marketing specialist and publishing consultant and has seen the industry evolve from a time when galleys comprised about 50 sheets of newsprint, five feet long, printed with continuous text, to current electronic ARCS.  Working with authors (all genres), illustrators and photographers as well as large and small publishers, she has negotiated book contracts, sold subsidiary rights, and edited and publicized books.  Four recipients of her publicity prowess have appeared simultaneously on The New York Times bestseller list.  She is particularly proud of her efforts for OLD TURTLE by Doug Wood that won the American Booksellers Association Book of the Year, sold 800,000 copies prior to its sale to Scholastic and won for Alice the Literary Marketplace Outside Services Award for Advertising, Promotion, and Publicity.  She lives in Friday Harbor, WA and can be contacted at <>. Cobb Salad: Romaine lettuce, hard-boiled egg, avocado, tomato, bacon, blue cheese, diced chicken in a honey-mustard dressing (Please note: Cobb Salad can be prepared with no meat)


Chicken Breast: stuffed with mushrooms, sun dried tomatoes and gruyere cheese with a side of Romaine salad with creamy Lemon garlic dressing & balsamic onions

All meals include bread and butter, and soda, coffee, and assorted teas. A platter of assorted desserts (lemon bars, cookie and brownies) will be placed in the middle of each table.

Reminder: to better serve our membership, we are now photographing and/or videotaping select events for archival and promotional purposes. If you plan to attend this event but don’t wish to be filmed, please state this in your RSVP. If you RSVP and then are unable to attend, to avoid being billed you must submit your cancellation via email three business days prior to the event.

COST: Members $30.00, Non-Members $45.00.
