About Us

The Book Promotion Forum (formerly known as the Northern California Book Publicity & Marketing Association) is an organization devoted to education about the publicity, promotion, marketing, and distribution of books throughout Northern California and beyond. Founded in 1975 by a group of twelve publicists as the Northern California Book Publicists’ Association (NCBPA), the group changed its name to recognize the marketing functions its programs frequently feature and the breadth of its membership.

In January of 2015 BPF was acquired by the Bay Area’s premiere networking organization, Books & Booze, a 501c3 non-profit dedicated to bringing folks from all aspects of publishing together to enjoy socializing, networking, and schmoozing. Books & Booze is the premiere gathering place for Bay Area publishing professional, both on the Web and in person. We offer a regular venue for chatting, drinking and networking, as well as scholarships, charitable giving, and a job board for staff positions and freelancers.

The BPF/Books & Booze Board meets once a month at the Berrett-Koehler Publishers offices in Oakland (at 12th St. BART) to discuss upcoming events and panels. We are always looking for enthusiastic members to join our team! Please contact us at president@bookpromotionforum.org for more information.
